UNRWA is the United Nations agency responsible for the protection, care and human development of a
population of some 4.6 million Palestine refugees living in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon,

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate will:
Supervises and provides maternal health/family planning services comprising :
o Ante-natal Care
- Examination of pregnant women after the initial visits through out the ante-natal period and referral of
women with risk factors to the Medical Officer or Gynaecologist / Obstetrician;
- Follow up on defaulters.
o Intra-partum care
- Monitoring of labour to the required standard;
- Employing safe delivery techniques;
- Resuscitation of the new born, as required;
- Providing care to mother and child up to 48 hours after delivery.
o Post-natal care
- Undertaking at least one post-natal visit to women who have attended for ante-natal care to assess the
health of the mother and child;
- Assisting in post-natal care and follow up provided at Health Centre level.
o Family planning
- Counselling on birth spacing and family planning;
- Assisting the Staff Nurse in the provision of family planning services.
Assists in the provision of child health services and completion of records relevant to the provision of
these services;
Provides health education relevant to the needs of individuals/groups;
Performs such other duties as may be required.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES:
Successful completion of secondary education;
Diploma or certificate of successful completion of a midwifery training programme of at least 18 months
duration from a recognized training school;
Possession of a license to practice midwifery in the country of duty station.
A minimum of two years experience in MCH centre, maternity unit/ hospital as a midwife;
Experience in the use of computers and an understanding of their use in health applications;
Good command of written and spoken English and Arabic;
Ability to work under pressure and cope with heavy workload;
Excellent organizational and communication skills;
Self-motivated.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $ 581.00; plus a currency adjustment factor (present rate 25%) and
monthly dependency allowance up to $123.25.
Contract Duration: Three years including 1 year probation period.
Leave: 30 days annual leave
Pension: Provident Fund contribution

Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and
progressive work experience may also be considered

Where there are two or more equally qualified candidates, selection preference will normally be given to
internal candidates, Palestine Refugees and candidates of the under-represented gender. An internal
candidate with a temporary-indefinite or fixed-term appointment selected for this post will retain his/her
current contractual status and entitlements in accordance with current letter of appointment and applicable
Area Staff Rules. With their prior agreement, candidates who are approved as suitable for appointment but
are not the selected candidate for this vacancy, will be placed on the Agencys roster of pre-approved
candidates for a period of up to one year, and may be considered for future vacancies in the same position.
The Agency maintains the discretion to fill future vacancies for this position from the roster without readvertising
the vacancy.
